Today was another visit to where we set off to start the project. My intentions were already thought out on where I would go and what areas I would go to take photos of. The main subject areas I tried for today was the accidental alphabet; I managed to find a few more letters and also I started to become more aware of how fast I can now see then since a couple of weeks ago. Here are some of the photos.
today was the induction of the bower ashton campus library, the whole area is packed with lots of great for resources. I have looked around at the site a couple of times but havent had a person talk us through about it. I'm am now confident to use this site if there isn't anything from the wise campus. The dvd's section was really pleasing as I could even get a feature film as a rental for a week. This didnt take up much of the day but I managed to see a good amount of books that can help me through some of the topics we are covering at the moment.
Today was a one to one meeting with malcolm , we discussed about my project and that i had very strong ideas around the ares of my visual journey. The journey I'm creating by taking photographs of the area of BS1 and I was interested by the different ground surfaces. The idea cropped into my mind when I went to the city centre a couple of days ago, I then noticed while tying my shoelaces that it was completely different.
Also the process of cutting of the cardboard letters had a great edge to the different areas of design and graphics. I will continue with my collages and also have a go into create a different arrangement with the letters. Here is a short video I have recently uploaded onto youtube.
I have now completed these little cardboard cut outs. I have only just recently read a book involving typography and different effects, i came across a artist that makes wood cut outs which i would like to try as an design.
Today I decided to create a graphical intervention through using the methods of oli's class. I got a sheet of cardboard and started to cut away; it took time and patience but in the whole process of it was great fun to make. Here is a short clip of my letters.
my plan is to now finish them off and photographing them down town. I was thinking of putting the letters around places that have historic relevance such as millennium square where there is great use of architecture and how much it stands out compared to historic boats.
During this day I first when to the main site campus to my very first lecture with Sam Thomson. We started at 9.30 and those few hours were packed with information on with visual culture, and the relationships between the 3 creative practices of Graphics, Photography and Fashion. We then were paired off into groups and were told questions about the three subjects ,what is Graphics/Fashion/Photography? Most of the answers we came up with were the same or they slightly went off in a different tangent. The images around the main site we saw was a poster with all three , there was a girl with her style of clothing that indicates fashion, the way the type font is graphics and the photograph of this girl. They all tie in together some way or another because its all from an artists background.
The number 23 has always been there for me and as it being both mine and sister's birthday number. I just found out that Sofia's and Lisa's was also 23. My experience with this number is that it comes up at random times, such as films. Today Oli was taking the lesson and he said that there are only 23% of mac users and earlier today sam Thomson stopped to make an interesting point in her lecture and looking at the projector I saw that she had stopped at 23 words.
Thursday 6th october i was in tutor lesson with sam brooks and reading the article about the SS Great Britain the first line said about the 23rd april.
Earlier today me and a group from my class of Graphics decided to meet up in town. We decided to continue in taking photographs of the accidental alphabet as well as familiarise ourselves wit the area. Also of what the main topic was gonna be on. I kept re reading the project brief to get a better understanding of whats the easiest to do for the day. As this was a Saturday there were lots of people around the area, which caused problems when getting discarded pieces of paper or little things that have relation to the topic I will eventually choose. From the leaflets I've kept from this outing i will read through in what direction I'm heading for.
